Arcanum {a course on the 22 profound secrets}

Using Tarot brings me closer to me. Closer to what is beyond me. Closer to the miraculous unnamable mystery of this world.  The cards inspire me as a storyteller and writer. They connect me with all that reveals itself from without and all that whispers secretly within.  And most of all, they help me serve; my self and my community.  Because more than anything, I am here to be in service.

I just love the cards. And I absolutely love sharing my excitement for them with others.  I want to witness how the cards might unfold for you, what your stories around them are.  So I have created a space to dive deeper with inquiry and to explore the beauty + truth of the cards. How will the cards speak to you? What do you seek through them? What are the rhythms? What does it all mean?

The Cards, especially the Major Arcana, are light posts on this winding trail of life.

Let’s illuminate this walk together.

{what this course is}

A journey of inquiry with the tarot’s Major Arcana cards.

The Major Arcana, the 22 trump cards of the tarot deck are said to hold the story of the Secret of Nature. The secret that explains the Universe, taking what appears to be broken and weaving it all together into One.  So that we understand this: we are not fragmented, but perfect and whole.

While the Minor Arcana help us understand and surrender to the ups and downs of daily rhythms,The Major Arcana cards serve the spiritual aspects of the human spirit and soul, also known as the Fool’s Journey, and often times related to the archetypes in Jungian philosophy, teachings of the Kabballah and the Tree of Life, as well as Christian and Pagan mythology.  These cards begin with The Fool and end with The World, and are equally important on their own and in connection to each other,  creating a profound linage when you pay attention to their relations. We will be spending time with *each* card as looking at some partnerships with each other.

This course will be around and roots/traditional meanins as well as practicing going *beyond* what has been already said by others.  We will focus on trusting our intuition and our Voice, which will strengthen our own personal journey with the cards-  as they mirror our own reality.  We will practice being tarot storytellers. This course is only but a scratch on the surface of these cards,  but it will be a deep, meaningful scratch.

I don’t think there is any one way to build a deeper relationship with your deck, but spending time with just these 22 cards can help you build strong roots and a solid foundation in storytelling and myth making. Knowing these cards intimately and personally can help you gain confidence and understanding for the deck as a whole.

In this 3 part course we will:

*look at the traditional/meaning and symbolism of these 22 cards

*look beyond traditional meaning of the cards

*strengthen our personal connection with each card

*uncover our personal voices around each card through inquiry and prompts

*learn how these cards can connect us to personal transformation

*practice being a portal for the stories of each of these cards

*begin to learn how each card has a relationship with the next

Note: For visuals and examples, I will mostly be using The Wild Unknown Tarot, sometimes The Nomad Tarot, and occasionally the Rider deck as examples.  You can join in with ANY DECK you have that has 22 major arcana cards. As we will find out, the symbols are universal and the myth is ours to tell.

These 22 secrets are the keys to unlock the path of your soul. The 22 secrets is that all parts of our life hold sacred meaning on our journey.

The Major Arcana cards represent the Big Soul Lessons of our lives. We cycle through them like the Fool does, meeting each challenge and moving on. We will repeat the same lessons at different stages in our lives, but on a deeper level each time.

I think of the four suits of the Minor Arcana as the four elements and directions, and the Major Arcana as the fifth suit of Spirit. The entire deck is an embodied sacred circle or medicine wheel, with the four elemental suits on the rim and the Majors anchoring the center.

The figures on the Major cards are mysterious, seductive characters who draw us in. We want to know their secrets. They invite us to live our lives on a mythic level, reminding us that life is a journey, and there is a sacred purpose in everything we do.
